Bank reconciliation that ties to the statement
Import the bank statement, confirm the matches PracticeBooks suggests, and finish only when the cleared balance agrees to the bank.
Import the statement
- Upload the statement as a CSV with an Amount column (deposits positive, withdrawals negative), or with separate Deposit and Withdrawal columns — up to 500 lines at a time.
- Each statement line is matched to an entry in the books with the same amount and a date within the window you choose, from the same day up to 31 days apart.
- You confirm the matches before anything is ticked. A statement line that is not in the books can be added from the import.
Tick, check and finish
- Tick items as cleared by hand as well, one at a time or many at once.
- A reconciliation can only be finished when the cleared balance equals the statement’s closing balance.
- You are warned when a ticked item is dated after the statement date, before it is locked into that period.
- Finishing locks the ticked items, so the reconciliation cannot drift afterwards. The most recent one can be undone.
A record of every reconciliation
Each finished reconciliation keeps the statement balance, the cleared balance, the deposits and withdrawals still outstanding, and who finished it. The history and the transaction list download as CSV.
On the financial statements checklist, signing off the bank statement closes that month to new entries on the bank accounts.
